This resource is a classroom-focused companion to the National Research Council’s Taking Science to School report (available on the COI website here) and serves to directly connect research-based knowledge of teaching and learning science with ways of supporting teacher practice in Grades K-8. It provides classroom case studies as concrete examples for applying the ideas from the report in various settings and illustrates how teachers can select and design rigorous and engaging instructional tasks, manage classrooms, and orchestrate productive discussions with culturally and linguistically diverse groups of students. The report can be read online free here; there is a charge for a pdf file download or a hard copy of the 220-page document.
