This Teaching Comprehension Strategies module is the second in a series of four Improving K-3 Reading Comprehension webinars designed to provide key principles and practices that support classroom instruction. Each module provides resources useful to federally funded School Improvement Grant (SIG) programs. The webinar modules introduce the Center on Instruction (COI) and Doing What Works (DWW) websites’ tools and resources and address (1) the supporting research, (2) teaching comprehension strategies, (3) engaging students with text, and (4) teaching text structure.

Also included for each module are resources useful to SIG grantees as well as to technical assistance providers and others interested in school improvement. WE SUGGEST YOU DOWNLOAD THE HANDOUTS BEFORE VIEWING THE MODULE, SINCE THEY ARE USED DURING THE PRESENTATION. They include handouts from the presentation and resource lists from COI and DWW as well as a transcript of the module presentation and participants’ notes. These are ZIP FILES which must be downloaded and “saved” to your computer; they cannot be opened directly from the website. Once a zip file is downloaded, it can be unzipped and the resources accessed.

The other webinars in the series can be accessed:
Module 1 – Research Overview
Module 3 – Engaging Students with Text
Module 4 – Teaching Text Structure to Support Comprehension
